David Craan is a junior Catcher for the Illinois Fighting Illini Baseball team. David grew up in Chicago and joined the Fighting Illini in 2016. He is double-majoring in Psychology and Communications and decided for Illinois because...

I love the opportunities available here and the atmosphere. Illinois is one of the best baseball programs in the country and in a premiere conference and is also one of the top schools academically in the country. I love the coaching staff, location and facilities.

David answered a few short questions for FanWord that allowed us to get to know him a bit better. Check out his responses below!

How old were you when you first started with Baseball?

I started playing baseball when I was 5 playing t-ball at my park district.

What is the most memorable experience from your college sports career?! (Positive)

First college homerun in my sophomore year.

What do you enjoy most about Baseball?

It’s uniquely challenging and humbling and you can learn a lot from it.

What do you enjoy most about playing for Illinois?

It’s a great university in a great conference with amazing and passionate fans. We also have a tight-knit student-athlete community.

What is your #1 goal in your college sports career?

Win a National Championship.

Can you describe a typical day for you as a student-athlete?

A typical day usually starts with me waking up at 5:30 for lifting. I then eat breakfast, shower, go to class until around 1, eat lunch, go to practice for a few hours, eat dinner and then do homework and study.

What is the most challenging aspect of being a student-athlete?

Finding time to relax between the demands of sports and school.

If you could give one piece of advice to high school athletes in your sport, what would it be?

Give it all you got and enjoy every second of it.

What is the number #1 thing on your bucket list

Buy a dog.

If you could be a professional athlete in any sport you want, which one would it be and why?

If I could be above 6’ basketball. I’ve always loved basketball and still play whenever I get the chance and shoe deals.

What is one thing the majority of people would not know about you?

I DJ and can play the piano.

If someone would give you $1 million tomorrow, what would you do with it?

Buy dog, donate to charity and invest.
