For an incoming freshman class, for example, gathering it means a scramble of surveys, spreadsheets, group texts, half-finished emails, and replies that trickle in over weeks. The data arrives messy, inconsistent, and rarely in a shape you can actually use.

Built For Clean Data

Our belief in building this tool is that messy input is the enemy of good output. Or more simply? Bad data in, bad data out. As a result, Forms includes four powerful data hygiene tools to shape responses into something usable the moment they arrive.

Predefined options standardize the answers you’ll reuse — States (two-letter, AP style, or full names), Height (shorthand or abbreviated), Countries, and Timezones — so “California,” “CA,” and “Calif.” all come in the way your style guide wants them.

Spell check uses context to make spelling and capitalization improvements:

• Before: “They’re cheers keep me motiviated. Some of my favorite teammmates ever.”
• After: “Their cheers keep me motivated. Some of my favorite teammates ever.”

Grammar check clean up responses without changing their meaning:

• Before: “I don’t want to not be available for the team this season.”
• After: “I want to be available for the team this season.”

Example formatting lets you set a sample answer that guides how a response gets rewritten, so a rushed reply still comes back polished and on-format:

• Before: “senior night with my parents”
• Example formatting you want: “My favorite moment at Rutgers was Rush Week Freshman year.”
• After: “My favorite moment at Rutgers was Senior Night with my parents.”
